According to the National Travel and Tourism Office, the travel and tourism industry in the United States had a significant impact on the economy in 2022. The industry generated nearly $1.9 trillion in economic output, which helped support 9.5 million jobs across the country. In addition, travel and tourism exports accounted for 9 percent of all U.S. exports and 27 percent of all U.S. services exports. These numbers demonstrate the importance of the travel and tourism industry to the overall health and prosperity of the United States.

In 2022, the U.S. travel and tourism industry made up 7.6 percent of the country’s gross domestic product. International visitors to the United States spent a total of $240 billion, with the majority of their expenses (about two-thirds) going towards personal expenditures such as healthcare ($1.2 billion) and education ($44.0 billion).
